Scar Assessment

The treatment of a scar at Scarchange is founded on a comprehensive and specialist scar assessment. A scar assessment involves asking you about how you got the scar, the impact it has on you, what treatment you have had so far and what your goals are and what you would like to improve. By the end of the assessment we will provide you a recommended treatment plan and expectations of what can be achieved. A scar assessment usually takes 1 hour.

Scar Mobilisation

RuthAnn has developed many manual techniques that can really soften your scars, make them more pliable and more comfortable. With these physical changes scars often also look better. These techniques are applied by hand (manual) or with a specialised device called LPG or endermologie. Treatments tend to take one hour, but some may be 30 minutes.

Scar Rehabilitation

Even a small scar can affect the whole of your body. Scars caused by trauma such as burns, necrotising fascitis, surgeries or road traffic accidents often mean that you have become deconditioned due to immobilisation or illness. If scars are near or cross joints than this adds to the limitations that you may feel. Through exercise therapy, stretching and working on the scar we aim to recover your fitness, movement and quality of life.

Scar management is a term that covers the many treatments that may be available to help improve the look and feel of your scar. At Scarchange we offer non-invasive scar management options only. This includes scar massage (manual and mechanical), stretch, pressure garments, silicones and creams, and taping.

A cornerstone of Scarchange is that we do not work in isolation; if we cannot help, we will direct you to someone who can. Most of our treatments are delivered in combination with other expert professions that we have close working relationships. Effective scar treatment is rarely in the hands of one person - due to the huge physical and psychological impacts of a scar, scars are best treated by a specialist team of professionals from a variety of backgrounds such as surgeons, dermatologists, medical tattooists, camflough experts, and psychologists. Scarchange works with all these professionals and will either refer you to work together with other professionals. Scarchange is well connected to the leading experts in scar management in the UK and around the world.
