Helping you get free of scar symptoms
Clinics in London, Brighton & Hove and Oxfordshire
Specialist scar rehabilitation
Scars can affect how you feel, move and live. Whether your scar is large or small, new or longstanding, visible or hidden, its impact can reach far beyond the scar itself.
Professional Services
Secialist scar expertise for professionals and organisations, including patient referrals, expert witness work, education and mentoring, research, service development and related projects.
Scar Assessment & Treatment
A thorough assessment helps identify the problems your scar is causing and what may help. From there, I can recommend an individual treatment plan, including non-invasive scar treatments, self-management and referral to other members of the multidisciplinary team where needed.
Types of Scar Treated
Discover some of the common scars and symptoms I help with and see how specialist care can make a difference. Your scar and your story are unique, but my extensive experience with similar scars to yours will help me create an effective treatment plan with you.
Scars hold potential for change
- let’s see what is possible
Dr RuthAnn Fanstone
Internationally recognised physiotherapist specialising in scar rehabilitation
I’ve treated thousands of scars over my career, from many different causes and in very different settings. I care deeply about helping each person achieve the best possible outcome for their scar, and doing my part to share what I have learned with others so that together we can improve care and outcomes for everyone with scars.
Here’s how we can help
Expert Scar Assessment
Not sure what can be done about your scar, which treatment might help, or what improvement is possible?
An expert scar assessment is often the right place to start. It can help you understand your scar, what may be causing your problems, and the options available.
Scar Mobilisation
Does your scar feel tight, restrictive, or uncomfortable?
Using specialist manual and mechanical techniques, scar mobilisation can improve scar pliability and flexibility, reduce restriction, and help with pain and sensitivity.
Scar Rehabilitation
Is your scar affecting how the rest of your body moves or feels?
Extensive scarring, or the effects of a scar beyond the scar itself, can affect how your body moves and functions. Rehabilitation addresses both the direct and wider effects of scarring.
Scar Management & Advice
Does your scar impact how you feel about yourself?
Scar management can address both symptoms and appearance. Advice, taping, pressure therapy and other approaches can help with the aspects of your scar that concern you most.
Scar Products
Confused about which scar products are worth using?
II can provide clear, evidence-based advice on products such as silicone and creams, including what may help your scar and what you probably don’t need.
Service Development
Looking to start or improve a scar service?
Whether developing a dedicated scar service or making an existing service more scar-informed, I can help explore what could work better – from pathways and models of care to treatments and ways of working.
Research
Exploring scar-related research questions?
I welcome research collaborations and can contribute scar expertise from developing research questions and study design through to interpretation and application in practice.
Education
Want to deepen your knowledge of scars and their management?
I offer education, mentoring and case-based learning, helping clinicians and teams apply scar knowledge within their own area of practice and improve care and outcomes for their patients.
“Before finding Ruthann I didn’t realise that rehab didn’t have to be a painful experience. She always took a holistic approach to my scar rehabilitation, and her knowledge of scars is incomparable. I have always felt so safe and supported in her care. When my healing seemed to have plateaued, she was there to show me different treatments I could use and never gave up.”
